June 9, 2007, Saturday

During Lydia’s radiation therapy last year.  Lydia was offered a free trip at the end of the radiation and chemo therapy for the good job well done.  It’s to reward the cancer kids and their wish to come true.  The free trip, of course, also include parents and all the siblings.

Three possible trips were given to Lydia for consideration: Disney world, cruise, or Hawaii.

“I want to go to Hawaii.”  Lydia said right away, “I just went to Disney World a few months ago.  I would like to take airplane too.  It will be fun.”

Knowing Lydia’s last chemo will finish in October 2006, I said,

“How about let’s take the cruise trip this winter.  Next summer, let’s visit Taiwan, the entire family.  We will then stop by Hawaii for several days on the way.”

“OK.”  Lydia responded happily.  This will be best arrangement.  She would have been to all the places offered.

Then, Lydia passed away before she could finish the treatment.  Of course, no free trip for the siblings either.

But the trip to Taiwan I decided to take since then has been in my mind all the time.  I believe it is important for the three surviving girls to visit Taiwan, the place mom and dad came from, to visit relatives and cousins who they have not seen for too many years, and BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.  For Lydia, it is already too late for her to see her cousins, and for her cousins to meet her.

We are leaving tomorrow to Hawaii.  The trip, which was Lydia’s wish coming true.  But sadly, Lydia could not make it herself.
