Subject: Walk of Heroes
To Esther and her family,
I have a new hero.
I met her at the Relay for life in May
2006. I was so glad to meet Lydia that
I quickly wanted to give her a hug and thank her for coming to the survivor
reception. I felt rather foolish that I
didn't consider her need to stay away from germs. I too spent many months with low white counts and needed to be
careful. I remember her beautiful eyes
looking over her mask. Eyes full of
faith and love.
I learned of her passing just last
week. Esther approached me after the
Relay meeting and gently told me of her journey. I was shocked. I guess I
just thought I would see her again in May at the next Relay of Life.
Esther told me she would forward Lydia's
web site and I spent hours reading. I
have never felt such deep faith and love in any written words like these. I am still in awe.
I am the co-chair of Relay for Life
again this year.
In honor of Lydia I am creating a new
event at the Relay. This year will be
our first Walk of Heroes.
This is an opportunity to play special
music, have readings, (red balloons), and what ever else we can do to celebrate
special heroes.
We will have a (weather proof) banner
for each hero.
We will hang the banners at all future
Relays.
In keeping with the spirit and support
of the American Cancer Society, each hour long Walk of Heroes will have a
$100.00 sponsor.
My family is honored to be the sponsor
of the Lydia Wu hour. It is a small way
to show how much we are moved by her faith and strength.
As the planning progresses we will have
Lydia's family and friends contribute to the hour with special activities that
represent her courage and faith.
I thank God for crossing paths with
Lydia. My life is richer for our
meeting.
Keeping you all in my prayers,
Peace,
