Keep the Promise

"It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end." (John 13:1)

During the class, a teacher told a story: "When a ship encountered a shipwreck and was about to sink, everyone was panic to get to the lifeboat. When a couple noticed that there was only one vacancy on the boat, the husband hurried to get the seat and left his wife behind, As she stood on the sinking ship and shouted loudly at her husband and said something. Please guess what she said?” Many classmates replied: "I hate you!" "You have no conscience!" or "May you sink also!" After most of students expressed their thoughts, the teacher noticed that a boy did not answer. So the teacher asked the student, what did he think? The boy replied: "I think she shouted and said," Take good care of our children! "The teacher was very surprised and asked: "Why would you think so? Have you ever heard of this story?" The boy replied, "No, but when my mother was dying, she said so to my father." The teacher went on to say:" This is the right answer! When the lifeboat was rescued, the husband went home safely and took good care of their daughter and raised her up by himself. After the man passed away, as his daughter was sorting out her father's papers, she found his diary that talked about the decision he and his wife had made on the ship. At that time, his wife already had a serious illness, so they decided that he would take up the responsibility of raising their daughter. How he wished to die with his wife in the sea, but he had to stay for the sake of their child. The father had faithfully carried out his promise to his wife until the end of his life."

We should not judge a person's behavior quickly by what it seemed outwardly. Many seemingly bad decisions might have complicated reason behind them. No matter how others said about our decision; the most important thing is that we should commit ourselves to keep our promises no matter what. Our Lord Jesus came to earth as a sacrifice for our sins and showed us that love had to pay the price (His life) in order to keep the promise God has made to us. Just as we know that God the Father loves us and we can have assurance that He will always keep His promises no matter what.
