of Helping Hands
“Strengthen the feeble
hands, steady the knees that give way.” (Isa. 35:3)
Our hands are tools for carrying out our thoughts. Hands can do
good deeds and also can do evil things. How we use our hands that God has given
us to help others. This should be our choice. The Bible shows us seven types
of beautiful hands.
1. The Hand of Blessing - “Taking the five loaves and the two fishes
and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke them. Then He gave them
to the disciples to set before the people.” (Luke9:16) Blessing is being
grateful for God’s mercy and calling people to revere God and enjoy His
presence and joy.
2. The Hand for Provision - “You yourselves know that these hands
of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.” (Acts
20:34) Providing through labor to meet the needs of others.
3. The Hand of Prayer – “I will, therefore, that men pray
everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting:” (I Timothy
2:8) Lifting up our hands in prayer signifies our reliance on God and
surrender to Him. Praying and supplication for ourselves and spiritual lives
of others. We truly will be empowered and helped by God through doing this.
4. The Hands of Healing – “And Jesus, moved with compassion, put
forth His hand, and touched him, and said unto him, I will; be thou clean.”
(Mark 1:41) Healing comes from God, but helping others believe in God or
aiding those who are weak can enable healing to go to them.
5. The Hand of Mercy – “For upon the first day of the first month
began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came
he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.” God shows
His mercy through others to accomplish it, without understanding His timing,
God’s mercy may be lost.
6. The Hand of Support – “But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they
took his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek
prevailed.” (Exodus 17:12) Support means to help, helping others in fact, is
also helping oneself.
7. The Hand of
Service – “If I, then your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also
ought to wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14) Service is working for God,
if you serve others it is as if serving God. Are you willing for God to
change and use your hands?
