“If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue.” (Romans 13:7)
Jesus and his disciples were in Capernaum, a tax collector came to ask for tax.
Jesus told Peter to go fishing, and get the coin in the mouth of the first fish
caught, and use it to pay the tax, lest he should offend them (Matt. 17:24).
Christians should be subject to taxation. The Bible teaches us to be honest with taxes.
Even though the government abuses taxes
to do some things against God, it is not an excuse not to pay tax. At that time, Caesar and Nero did not
believe in God.
emphasis on personal responsibility; health, education, and helping the poor
are what the people of God should be responsible for. The so-called ‘Poor tax’ to pay for other
than one-tenth of one-thirtieth, is designed to help the poor (Deut. 14:28). The best example is that in earlier time’s hospitals
and universities were run by the church. Only when the church does not
fulfill her duties, should the government take over. When President Roosevelt established the
Social Security system in 1935, it has become the world’s largest government
program. Today, more than 37% of total
spending is for Social Security and Medicare.
According to a statistic from the University of Tampa, 71 billion
dollars of tax revenue are exempted from religious groups. The opposition says that it’s unfair to 20%
people that do not believe in religion. Those in favor say that religion helps to stabilize
society. The U.S. Constitution clearly
stipulates that the government shall not interfere with the freedom of
religion. Moreover, many non-profit organizations also enjoy tax exemption. Only a tyrannical government like Roman
Empire would force church to pay tax.
Endless abusive spending of taxpayer’s money by the government, even
in the name of a disguised form of welfare in exchange for the votes should
be stopped. In Ohio, for example, the
government gave the poor more than one million cell phones and pays their
monthly fee is abuse of power. The
state debts increase 1.4 trillion dollars a year. We spend our children and grandchildren’s
money. Don’t wait it become too late. Christians should avoid borrowing, and call
out the government to reduce spending.
