To Receive and to Give

“Remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts.20: 35)

Once while Emperor Alexander was inspecting a town, he saw some beggars along the roadside.  Most of the beggars went away when they saw the emperor, but one came forward to ask for money. Unexpectedly, Alexander did not expel the dirty filthy beggar; instead he gave him several gold coins. The guard general was surprised and said: ”My Lord, you only need to give him copper coins.” Alexander replied: “I only have gold coins, this is the way I give.”

Our Heavenly Father is the creator of all things. He owns all and is full of mercy. His giving is beyond what we expect. The key is whether we have faith to receive it.  Faith is a mind of “I want.”  Although I am not worthy to receive it but I want. It is not an absurd plead, but one to meet needs. God favors a heart of depending on Him. His generous delivery is beyond our imagination.

In the 21th century, many American cities will face a problem, the drinking water distribution system. Because many water pipes were made of cast iron. After years of rusting, many of them were partially clogged or on the brink of collapse. To replace them, the crew has to remove buildings and excavate dirt. It is very difficult. Now you can even see some rust pieces in the tap water.

A Christian is like a water pipe. God use us to deliver His grace to others. If we are selfish and only care for our benefits, we are just like rusting pipes and cannot bless others.  A little bit of care can only comfort our minds. God is willing to bless us but with one condition. He wants us to give. If we only receive, but not give, we will be abandoned as the broken pipes berried underground and uselessly.  Are you willing to give wholeheartly ?
