“Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be
thankful, and so worship God
acceptably with reverence and awe.”(Heb. 12:28)
During the time of Warlords in China, the
Lord Wei had a concubine who had borne no son. Wei told his son Ker to let her remarry after his death. But on his deathbed he changed his mind and
ordered the concubine to be buried with him alive. After his death, his son Ker
took the previous order and let her remarry. Later, Ker went to
war with Chin, and he saw an old man tying knots with weeds on the field.
Chin army’s horses were trapped by the knots and fell to the ground and lost
the battle. That night Ker saw the old man in the dream and told him that he was
the concubine’s father and came to help him as repayment for his good
Many times we forget to
reward others for the good deeds that they have done for us. Likewise, when we receive the precious gift
of salvation and abound in blessings from God; we seldom show our gratitude. We often say: “Thank you God”, without any
actions that follow. We are practically
hypocrites, because we are selfish and full of pride. We are like the Pharisees
of the New Testament.
To show our gratitude we should
at least do three things: First, we need to pursue and know God. If we receive a favor from someone, we need
to find out who the person is. How can
we not seek to know God, whom has given us so much? It is through prayer, reading the Bible,
listening to sermons, and fellowshipping with others, that we can understand
God’s nature and His principles of living, which helps us to love Him more.
Second, we should do what God
wants us to do. If someone is able to
save us, how can we not to listen to him. The Bible is the norm for us to follow. If we do not study the Bible, it is just
like a patient that does not follow the doctor’s instructions,
surely the illness of our soul will not be cured.
Third, we should witness for
God. When we see a good sale going on,
we are eager to pass it on to others, how can we not be a witness of God’s
gracious love, as we experience it? It
is quite simple to witness for Christ. Just tell others what God has done in your
life. Of course, we need to have good
deeds to testify our beliefs.
Christians are saved sinners.
We should serve the Lord to
demonstrate our gratitude to Him.
