Young Old Man

Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.” (Deut. 34:7)

If someone did not know our age, some of us would appear to be very young, and others of us would seem very old. In fact, it is not only the outside appearance, which decides the age of a person, but the thinking inside and determination as well. Sometimes people use age as a convenient excuse. We often hear people say: “I'm too old to learn this”, “It’s impossible for me to do that,” or I couldn't learn how to use the computer or internet at my age.  But we also hear of other people who go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in the later years of their life.

Colonel Harland Sanders started franchising his fried chicken fast-food outlets when he was 65 years old. All the way up to the age of 90 years old, he traveled average 250,000 miles a year visiting his KFC franchises around the world. He not only overcame personal and business adversities, but more importantly, he didn't let age stand in his way!

Feelings lead to attitudes, attitudes become beliefs, and beliefs become the basis for actions. This principle has nothing to do with the age. It is not important how old you are; it is how you feel, how you think, and what you do that is important. Exercise body can slow down the process of degeneration, but exercising the brain can continue on to a much older age. To keep a creative mind, you must believe you can overcome difficulties and keep on trying, which is a secret of keeping young.

When Moses sent Caleb and the other explorers to probe the land of Canaan, he was forty years old. The other explorers all reported bad news, only Joshua and Caleb claimed that with God’s help, they surely could defeat the enemies. Israelites’ disbelief kept them forty years in wilderness. When Caleb was 85 years old he said: “I followed the Lord God wholeheartedly. I am just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.” (Joshua 14:11) Because of this conviction, the Bible considers him a giant in faith. He believed that God would give him strength as he needed. Therefore, we should not count our years, but rather make our years count.
